Setting up a Trust = Lose control over assets?

02-08-2023

When holding investment assets in a trust, the settlor (i.e. the investor) transfers some or all of the investment assets to the trust. However, this does not necessarily imply that the settlor will lose control over the assets.

General Structure of Trust

The Settlor may choose to participate in the establishment of the trust deed and may also appoint an investment advisor (such as oneself or a designated individual or company) to provide investment advice to the Trustee.

Therefore, even though the assets are managed by the trust company, it does not mean that the investor loses control over their own assets.
